If you’re in the mood for a tasty treat to eat, you’re in luck. Not only is July 13 National Bean ‘n’ Franks Day, it’s also National French Fries Day, also referred to as National French Fry Day.
Did you know people have been enjoying the deep-fried potato strips for centuries? While the actual “inventor” is up for debate, fries are believed to date back to the 17th century. While “traditional” fries are thin strips of potatoes deep-fried in oil and sprinkled with salt, today’s fries are available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and flavors. If you happen to be a French fries fan, and who isn't, Americans love fries no matter how you slice them! Whether you prefer yours thin and crispy, curly or thick, Americans eat about 29 pounds of fries annually.
Our Canadian neighbors are famous for a fry dish – poutine.Traditionally made with fries, cheese curds and smothered in gravy, legend has it this delish dish was “invented” in Quebec back in the 1950s. They are so popular, McDonald’s even sells them in Canada. Now you really can have your curds your own "way!"
