National Day of Unplugging: Can you unplug & turn it all off for 24 hours

It’s time to turn off all those handy dandy gadgets, folks. National Day of Unplugging (NDU) is here, an annual holiday that kicks off at sundown on the first Friday in March and runs until sundown 24 hours later.

Launched several years ago by Reboot, National Day of Unplugging serves as a reminder to disconnect from technology and reconnect with friends and family without a computer, cell phone or electronic device. While technology helps us stay connected 24/7, it may also keep us disconnected from life. Between the non-stop texting, emailing, Facebooking & Twittering, we just can’t seem to get away from our devices and miss those once-in-a-lifetime moments because we are always looking at our phones.

It’s time to have a real conversation with someone the old fashioned way – face-to-face. Take the dog for a walk and stop and smell the roses (without running into a tree.) Invite a few of your favorite BFFs over and have a refreshing wine tasting party (be sure to check the devices at the door!) Read (or write) a book, go for a road trip or start in on your spring cleaning ritual.

If your friends or coworkers complain you are always on your phone, this day is for you. Give those thumbs and fingers a break and give it a go. Turn it all off for 24 hours. But the big question is – can you do it?
