With the beginning of the summer season unofficially under way, it’s time to wear protection!Sunscreen, that is! On the heels of Don’t Fry Day, May 27 is Sunscreen Day or Sun Screen Day, an annual “holiday” that raises awareness about the importance of wearing sunscreen.

As more and more people head outside to enjoy the warm and sunny weather, Sunscreen Day serves as an important reminder that too much sun can lead to skin cancer, premature wrinkles and damage to the eyes. Did you know the most common type of cancer in the United States is skin cancer, which is preventable? One American will die about every hour from malignant melanoma.

Sunscreen can help protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays when applied properly. Besides wearing sunscreen, there are some other simple steps you can take to keep you and your family safe from the harmful effects of the sun.
