Fourth of July holiday closings: What’s open & closed on Independence Day?

Get out the red, white and blue, folks. It’s Independence Day in the U.S.A., a patriotic holiday that celebrates the birth of American independence from Great Britain.Independence Day, also referred to as the Fourth of July or July 4, is a federal holiday observed annually on July 4.

Each year, millions of Americans will celebrate Independence Day by attending parades, concerts, backyard barbecues, family get-togethers and/or watching spectacular fireworks displays.

Whether you plan to travel across the country or stay close to home, some businesses, government offices and services around the nation will be closed in honor of the occasion. Please call ahead or visit the organization's website for information on closures.

What is Open & Closed on July 4?

Postal Service The United States Postal Service (USPS) will be closed and there will be no mail delivery on Saturday, July 4, 2015. UPS will also be closed on July 4 (although UPS Express Critical will be available.) Depending on the specific service, some FedEx services will be available, some will have modified service and some will be closed. Please check the website for specifics.

Stock Markets – NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange will be closed on Friday due to the holiday. The Chicago and New York Mercantile floor trading will also be closed on Friday.

Government Offices – City, county, state and federal offices will be closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday.

Businesses and Services – It’s business as usual for many businesses, malls, stores and supermarkets across the nation. Some stores may be offering some steals-and-deals in honor of the occasion. Depending on where you live, transportation service and garbage pickup may be impacted for the holiday as well.
