If you’ve ever wondered if the boss could do your job as well as you’re expected to, today may just be your lucky day! Today is National Boss/Employee Exchange Day, an annual holiday celebrated on the first Monday after, appropriately, Labor Day.
If you’ve always wondered what exactly it is your boss actually does each and every day, today provides the perfect opportunity to find out. National Boss/Employee Exchange Day encourages bosses and employees to switch roles – just for a day. If your boss is up for the switch, you will probably appreciate each other a lot more after the work day is done.
Just imagine how fabulous it would be to step into the bosses shoes for one day. Being able to close that luxurious office door, sip gourmet coffee, surf the net, twiddle your thumbs and chat with the significant other on the phone all day long while the workers are busy working. But unless your boss is like the dysfunctional Michael Scott, chances are pretty good your boss does a lot more than that! Hiring and firing, scheduling issues, deadlines, dealing with the big boss and handling conflict all day long does not sound like a walk through the park.
And if the boss really has no clue what it is you do each and every day, maybe he or she will appreciate you a lot more once you make the switch.
Bad Bosses Can Make You Sick
While good bosses are a joy to work for, working for a bad, incompetent or bully boss can be a nightmare. According to psychologist Robert Hogan, 75 percent of working adults say the worst and most stressful part of their job is their immediate boss! According to a Swedish study, employees who ranked their bosses poorly had a greater risk of heart disease and heart attacks.
Bad bosses can make you sick!
Stress on the job can lead to decreased
performance, more sick time and higher health care costs. Bad bosses are just plain bad for business. Working for a bad boss not only affects your physical health and mental well-being, but can negatively impact your relationships as well. It’s hard to de-stress after a rotten day at work.
