Child Health Day

October 3, 2016

Child Health Day is a national observance created to highlight the importance of protecting our children’s health. The annual event also encourages parents to include proper nutrition and regular exercise into their children’s lives and how to minimize various health problems including diabetes, heart disease, obesity and asthma.

Originally celebrated in May, Child Health Day has been observed on the first Monday in October since 1960. United States President Calvin Coolidge first proclaimed National Child Health Day in 1928.

Health organizations and professionals around the country participate in the event by attending various events and activities.
