Today is Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day (BWAD)! This annual holiday is celebrated each year on the last Monday in January. Launched in 2001, BWAD celebrates this amazing product first manufactured in 1960 by Sealed Air.
But like many great inventions, bubble wrap was actually intended to be something else – textured wallpaper! But inventors Marc Chavannes and Al Fielding soon realized their product would be much better suited for cushioning and protecting prized possessions and products, and the rest, as they say, is pop history.
And just in case you think bubble wrap is just for valuables, think again. In 2010, the most accident prone street in the UK, dubbed Accident Avenue, was wrapped in bubble wrap to help raise safety awareness!
While bubble wrap serves an important purpose protecting all sorts of products, few who touch it can resist popping one or two of those tempting plastic bubbles of sealed air atop miles and miles of plastic sheeting. Plus, popping bubbles is a great way to reduce stress too! So go ahead – get your pop on today and get poppin’!
