If the winter blues have got you down-and-out, get ready to let the sunshine in. There just may be a little light at the end of the never-ending winter tunnel. As many Americans contend with downright nasty and blizzard-like conditions, spring may be right around the corner and there is only one sure-fire way to find out when it will arrive. A highly anticipated event is only a few hours away. An annual holiday that celebrates a legendary rodent known far-and-wide is almost here. Feb. 2 is Groundhog Day in the U.S.A!
Every year on Feb. 2, a very famous, weather-predicting groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, emerges from his warm and comfy winter home at the crack of dawn from Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney as the world looks on. Although Phil holds no official degree, inquiring minds always want to know. Will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow this year or won't he? If it happens to be a sunny day and the furry fellow spots his shadow, we are in for six more weeks of winter. But if the all-knowing groundhog doesn't see his shadow, spring is on the way!
On Tuesday, thousands of people will flock to the small Pennsylvania town to witness Phil's prediction in action. While Phil is most certainly the main attraction, all sorts of fun activities and events will also take place in honor of the annual event. And just in case you can't be there in person, you can watch the prediction unfold live online, too (Just be sure to set your alarm clocks and handy dandy electronic devices, folks. The fun begins at 5 a.m. CST.)
