Daylight Saving Time

In case you haven’t heard the news, it’s that “time” of year again. A surefire sign of spring is almost here and after this year's cold and snowy winter, spring can't come soon enough! In just a few days, millions of Americans will "spring forward." Yessir, the "time" has finally come, folks. The annual clock adjusting ritual is almost here.

For most of the United States, Daylight Saving Time (DST) occurs on the second Sunday in March. At 2:00 a.m. local time on March 12, 2017, most Americans will move their clocks, watches, alarm clocks and handy-dandy gadgets forward one hour. Although it means one less hour of sleep, it also means we are one-step closer to warmer weather. While DST is believed to reduce traffic accidents and reduce energy consumption, one study suggests the DST change can result in a “brief but significant increased risk for stroke” as well as a spike in heart attacks during the first week of the change.

Daylight Saving Time lasts until November when we move all the clocks back one hour (Spring forward, Fall back.) While you are busy changing all those clocks, today is also Check Your Batteries Day, an annual event that serves as an important reminder to change the batteries on the smoke detectors and other life-saving devices in your home and office.
