World Blood Donor Day: Give the gift of life by donating blood
June 14 is World Blood Donor Day (WBDD), an annual event that raises awareness about the importance of donating blood. Since its launch in 2004, nations around the world have participated in WBDD with a variety of events and educational activities. The ‘holiday’ not only brings attention to the critical need for safe blood and blood products, World Blood Donor Day also recognizes those who have donated blood, one of life’s most precious gifts.
Donating Blood Saves Lives
As the weather turns warmer, people tend to spend more time outside. During the summer months, many blood centers face shortages. Every 2 seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. 1 pint of blood can save up to 3 lives. WBDD serves as an important reminder to give blood regularly.
