The first Tuesday in August shines the spotlight on neighborhood safety. It's National Night Out (NNO), an annual "holiday" created back in 1984 by the non-profit organization, National Association of Town Watch (NATW.)
National Night Out helps raise awareness about the importance of keeping our neighborhoods crime and drug-free in cities across America and Canada. NNO promotes the very important police-community partnership. Participating neighborhoods across North America will host all sorts of events in honor of the occasion including block parties, ice cream socials and backyard barbecues. Organizers are asking participants to turn on their porch or outside lights, lock the doors and spend some time with your neighbors and/or local law enforcement personnel. This would be the perfect time to set up a Neighborhood Watch Program in your neck-of-the-woods.
Plan on participating or creating your own event and help keep your neighborhood safe! Registration is free. Please visit the website for an event near you.
