Magic Day

If you or someone you know is fascinated by illusions and tricks, you're in luck. June 12 is Magic Day - an annual "holiday" that celebrates the craft of magic. After all, what child, or adult for that matter, can resist a wondrous magical trick that boggles the mind?

While magic may mean different things to different folks, it is defined as "the art of producing illusions as entertainment by the use of sleight of hand, deceptive devices, etc." or to "presumably assure human control of supernatural agencies or the forces of nature." After years of practice, skilled magicians learn how to "manipulate their environment to create illusions."

Magic Day is not the only day of the year that celebrates magic. National Magic Day, observed annually on October 31, commemorates the work of one of the most renowned magicians, Harry Houdini. Houdini died on October 31, 1926.

While you may not be able to pull a rabbit out of a hat quite yet, why not try your hand with a few illusions to impress your friends and family?
