A very important day of the year is here and people, organizations and businesses around the world are celebrating! It's International Women's Day (IWD), also known as International Working Women's Day, an annual “holiday” celebrated each year on March 8.
First observed in 1911, IWD not only celebrates women’s achievements of the past, present and the future, but also raises awareness about issues that affect women around the globe. While there has been significant progress over the past century, challenges for women still remain. Some women still face gender discrimination, lower pay, insufficient healthcare and violence.
Each year, men and women observe IWD by participating or organizing events that inspire women and celebrate their many economic, political and social achievements. Governments, businesses, corporations, schools, charities, women’s groups and individuals participate in all sorts of events that span the globe.
